October 28, 2008

Ahmed Dogan Novinite.com Bulgarian nationalist ATAKA party have demanded that chief prosecutor Boris Velchev strips of immunity the leader of ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms party, Ahmed Dogan.

The reason behind the request is the alleged suicide of a high-ranking MRF member Ahmed Emin, the nationalists said.

According to ATAKA deputy chair Pavel Shopov, suspicions existed that a murder was committed and it might have been linked to Ahmed Dogan.

MPs from Dogan's party opposed a discussion of the request and Parliament Chair Georgi Pirinski announced that the ATAKA declaration has already been filed in the parliament's law commission, which are to announce their decision in 15 days.

Ahmed Emin's body was found Friday afternoon in the Sofia neighborhood of Boyana, in a notorious estate, allegedly belonging to Dogan.

So far the investigating prosecutor in the case of Emin's death has supported the initial version that it has been suicide. Emin was found shot with his own gun. The investigators also revealed Sunday that they have found a suicide note left by Emin, but the note's authenticity is yet to be confirmed.

The note was reportedly addressed to Ahmed Dogan, to Emin's father, and to Emin's children.
