October 27, 2008 Novinite.com The leader of the nationalist Bulgarian party ATAKA Volen Siderov said Monday he believed there was nothing in the way of ATAKA's cooperation with the Sofia Mayor's party GERB. In his interview for the Bulgarian TV channel bTV, Siderov also pointed out that by the beginning of 2009 it would be clear which political parties were likely to form coalitions before or after the regular parliamentary elections in June 2009. The nationalist leader stated that, even though GERB was believed to be the most popular Bulgarian political party, it obviously did not have the potential to secure a government mandate on its own.
As a result, Siderov relies on a reasonable approach regarding coalition negotiations on part of GERB and its leader, the Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov. The Ataka leader also declared he had raised the question about the potential danger of the involvement of the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) in Bulgaria's government. In Siderov's words, the DPS and its leader Ahmed Dogan had been speculating with the ethnic tensions topic in order to secure more votes from the minority voters.
Siderov believes there would not be any ethnic troubles if the DPS was not part of the country's government.
The Sofia Mayor and GERB leader Boyko Borisov and ATAKA's leader Volen Siderov have had a number of meetings in the recent months, and have supported common opposition initiatives. |
