ATAKA (“Attack”) is a Bulgarian nationalist party founded on April 17, 2005 in Sofia as a result of almost two years of organizational activity. The central person to be responsible for the foundation of ATAKA Political Party is Volen Siderov.
Mr. Siderov is a famous Bulgarian political journalist who has written more than 2,000 press articles and 4 books. Siderov has been one of the dissidents against the communist regime till 1989. Volen Siderov was also one of the pioneers of the anticommunist political opposition in Bulgaria. In the period 1990 - 1992 he was editor-in-chief of the first opposition newspaper called “Demokratsiya” (Democracy). Volen Siderov hadn’t been a member of any political party till ATAKA was created.
At the parliament elections held in June, 2005 ATAKA Political Party won 8.9% of the votes, which gave it the right for 21 MPs at the Bulgarian Parliament. This considerable success was achieved with almost no expenses on pre-election campaign, TV advertisements, shiny billboards and posters.
