The Bulgaria nationalist party "Ataka" formally threw its weight behind the future government of Boyko Borisov's party GERB.

In a special declaration Monday, Ataka declared its support for the GERB cabinet, and that it did not want to participate in the executive branch.

The declaration asks all political forces that would like to differentiate themselves from the outgoing government of the Socialists and the ethnic Turkish party DPS to "behave "responsibly and to respect the choice of the Bulgarian voters".

"Ataka" (which means "Attack" in Bulgarian) states it supported GERB's intentions to revise the policies of the previous governments, to implement anti-crisis measures, and to stabilize Bulgaria's economy and finances.

After the second round of negotiations last Friday, Ataka remained the only political force that has declared its unconditional support for the future government of GERB. The center-right Blue Coalition has declined to sign GERB Memorandum for support of the new cabinet, and the conservative RZS party also declined claiming that its partners from the European conservative parties objected to having its leader Yanev sign the same document together with the nationalist leader of Ataka, Volen Siderov.

GERB has 116 MPs in the 240-seat Bulgarian Parliament, Ataka has 21, the Blue Coalition - 15, and RZS - 10.

Letter from Hans-Gert Pöttering to Dimitar Stoyanov Print

September 4, 2008

Letter from Hans-Gert Pöttering to Dimitar Stoyanov Dear Colleague Stoyanov,
Thank you for your letter of 27 August 2008 whereby you bring to my attention an incident in which you were involved and which took place on 30 July 2008.

I am concerned about the information that has reached me that a Member of the European Parliament was detained by the police and allegedly mistreated. Respect for human rights, an independent judiciary and the Rule of Law are basic principles of our democratic system. These principles must be respected in all circumstances.

I understand that the competent Bulgarian authorities are investigating into this matter. I am confident that they will establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident and will decide accordingly on possible steps to take. You will understand that it would not be appropriate for the European Parliament lo take a stance on the incident before the investigation has been concluded. Nevertheless, I have instructed the Legal Affairs Committee to examine the case and to advise me on any potential implications with regard to your parliamentary immunity.

Yours sincerely,

Declaration by ATAKA Political Party Print

19 February, 2009

ATAKA Through the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey

To the President of the Republic of Turkey

To the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey

Mr. President,

Mr. Prime Minister,

Being activists of the patriotic ATAKA political party and in the name of 650, 000 Bulgarian voters who supported us we insist that the Turkish state apologize for the genocide over Bulgarian nationality practiced for a period of five hundred years.

During this period millions of Bulgarians were exterminated in the most sadistic way while about 3, 5 million Bulgarian children were violently separated from their families and turned into killers of Christians in the so called Janissary corps after the Turkish “Devshirme” blood tax.

The leader of the nationalist "Ataka" party, Volen Siderov, has declared that nationalism was no longer a taboo in Bulgaria after Sunday's Parliamentary Elections.

In his post-election press conference, Siderov emphasized that a number of the other right-wing Bulgarian parties had copied a lot of his party's their nationalist slogans, which meant that that topic was becoming increasingly important.

The Ataka party leader made it clear that the new government would put on a test with its first policies. He demanded from GERB a new attitude towards fighting "islamization, robbing the country, and corruption".

Siderov stressed that a number of the privatization deals in the recent years had to be reviewed because they were detrimental to Bulgaria, and demanded that the new GERB government to be formed investigate all the firms connected to the parties of the outgoing governing three-way coalition of the BSP, the DPS, and the NMSP.

"We want to see GERB investigate the whole criminal clique of the DPS, which is connected to Turkey's secret services, the Turkish mafia, and to stop the advancing islamization", the nationalist leader declared. novinite.com
